Arlington Heights, IL (February 11, 2014) Residential Lighting and Building Design+Construction magazines have been honored by the Association of Business Information and Media Companies (ABM) as finalists in the 60th Annual Jesse H. Neal Awards competition for editorial excellence. The two publications, owned by Scranton Gillette Communications/SGC Horizon, are recognized in the Best Single Issue category for their joint efforts in the April 2013 issue of Building Design+Construction. Winners will be announced March 14 during ABM’s annual Neal Awards ceremony.

The April issue featured a cover story on “23 Things You Need to Know About Charter Schools,” which is also a 2014 Neal Award finalist for Best Instructional Content, and an LED Lighting Solutions 24-page section that was produced by the Residential Lighting editorial team and BD+C designer Elena Mengarelli. Also in the April issue: an AIA Continuing Education course on high-efficiency lighting, and features on achieving net-zero energy buildings and managing BIM/VDC-driven projects.

“It is rewarding to get affirmation for our cooperative effort with the BD+C editorial team,” says Laura Van Zeyl, editorial director/publisher of Residential Lighting. “As interest in LED lighting continues to grow, we’re even launching a dedicated campus on BDCUniversity.com this year to help readers keep up with this evolving technology.”

Building Design+Construction is also a finalist in a third category, Best Cross-platform Package, for its November 2013 package, “Pedia-Pod: The Modular Pediatric Unit.”

“I am delighted that our hard-working editorial team is being recognized for innovative articles and in-depth coverage as finalists in three separate categories,” says BD+C Editorial Director Robert Cassidy.
